How to search for a lead in Salesforce: step by step
Requirements
- ·Salesforce's global search returns results from all objects (Leads, Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities, etc.). If there are records with similar names across different objects, you must visually identify the correct result.
- ·Salesforce indexes records for global search, but there is an indexing latency of up to 15 minutes for newly created records.
- ·For more specific searches (by phone, email, or custom field), use List Views in the Leads module or SOQL in the Developer Console.
Click on the global search bar
At the top of any Salesforce page, click the search bar located in the center of the navigation bar. You can also press Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+K (Mac) to activate the search with the keyboard.
Type the lead's name
Type 'John García' in the search field. As you type, Salesforce will show search suggestions with the most relevant records from recently visited items. If you see the lead in the suggestions, you can click directly on it.
Press Enter to see all results
Press the Enter key to run the full search. Salesforce will display a results page with all records matching 'John García' across all objects in your organization.
Filter results by Leads
On the search results page, locate the filter panel on the left side. Click 'Leads' in the 'Filter by Type' or 'Object Type' section. This will show only Lead object records that match the search.
Click on the lead's name
In the filtered results list, identify the correct John García lead by checking additional information such as company, email, or phone if shown in the results. Click on the lead's name to open their full record.
Review the lead record
In the lead record, you will find all contact information (name, company, email, phone), the lead status (New, Working, Qualified, etc.), the activity history, and any custom fields configured by your organization.
