HubSpot vs Teeo

How to delete stages from my pipeline

Deleting a pipeline stage in HubSpot requires first reassigning all deals in that stage, as it cannot be deleted if it contains active deals. The process is done in Settings > CRM > Deals > Pipelines and takes 10 to 15 minutes. In Teeo, you tell the assistant which stage to delete and it shows you the deals to reassign if any exist.

How to delete stages from my pipeline in HubSpot: step by step

Requirements

  • ·It is not possible to delete a stage if it contains active deals. You must reassign them first.
  • ·'Closed Won' and 'Closed Lost' stages cannot be deleted as they are fixed system stages.
  • ·When deleting a stage, workflows and reports that reference it must be manually updated.
  1. Check if the stage has active deals

Before going to Settings, go to CRM > Deals and filter by the stage you want to delete. Verify how many deals are in that stage. If there are deals, you must move them to another stage before you can delete it.

  2. Reassign deals from the stage to be deleted

If there are deals in the stage, select them all (using the checkbox at the top of the list). Click 'Actions' > 'Edit properties' and change the 'Deal stage' field to another pipeline stage. Save the changes.

  3. Access HubSpot Settings

Once the stage is empty of deals, click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top navigation bar to open Settings.

  4. Navigate to CRM > Deals > Pipelines

In the left sidebar of Settings, click 'CRM' then 'Deals'. Select the 'Pipelines' tab at the top of the screen.

  5. Select the corresponding pipeline

If you have multiple pipelines, click the name of the pipeline that contains the stage you want to delete. You'll see all the pipeline's current stages.

  6. Locate the stage you want to delete

In the pipeline stages list, find the 'Proposal Sent' stage (or whichever you want to delete). Make sure it no longer has assigned deals; otherwise the delete button will be disabled.

  7. Click the delete icon

To the right of each stage you'll see a trash icon or an 'X'. Click it to start the deletion process. If the stage has deals, HubSpot will show an error message asking you to reassign them first.

  8. Confirm deletion and save

A confirmation dialog will appear. Click 'Delete' to permanently delete the stage. Then click 'Save' to save the changes to the pipeline. Verify the pipeline now shows the correct order without the deleted stage.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete the 'Closed Won' or 'Closed Lost' stages in HubSpot?

No. The 'Closed Won' and 'Closed Lost' stages are fixed system stages in HubSpot and cannot be deleted. You can rename them, but not delete them. The system requires them to calculate close rates and sales forecasts.

What happens to reports and workflows if I delete a pipeline stage in HubSpot?

If you have workflows that use the deleted stage as a condition or action, they must be manually updated to avoid errors. Similarly, reports that filter or group by that stage will no longer show data for it. HubSpot does not automatically update these elements when a stage is deleted.

Can I recover a deleted pipeline stage in HubSpot?

No. Pipeline stage deletion in HubSpot is permanent. Once deleted, you cannot recover it from the interface. If you need to use it again, you'll have to create it anew and configure its close probability.
