How to create a nurturing sequence
Creating a nurturing sequence in Dynamics 365 requires the Sales Accelerator feature, available only in Sales Premium and Enterprise plans. The process involves creating the sequence, adding activity steps (emails, calls, tasks), configuring wait times, and connecting the sequence to a lead segment. The complete process can take 40 to 50 minutes. In Teeo, you describe the sequence and it's configured automatically.
How to do it in Teeo
“Create a nurturing sequence for leads that haven't responded in 7 days: value message at 7 days, success story at 14, offer at 21”
The sequence is set up and will activate automatically for leads that meet the condition.
How to create a nurturing sequence in Microsoft Dynamics 365: step by step
Requirements
- ·Sequences in Dynamics 365 are part of Sales Accelerator, a feature available exclusively in Dynamics 365 Sales Premium (~$135/user/month) and Sales Enterprise (~$95/user/month) plans. It is not available in the Professional plan.
- ·Sequences work as activity guides for sellers: they tell them what to do and when. They are not automated email marketing campaigns; emails within a sequence require the seller to send them manually or configure a Power Automate integration.
- ·To automate email sending without manual intervention, it is recommended to complement Sequences with Power Automate flows, which requires additional licenses and technical knowledge.
Access Dynamics 365 Sales Hub
Log in to home.dynamics.com and open the 'Sales Hub' app. Verify that your license is Sales Premium or Enterprise, as Sales Accelerator (where sequences are created) is not available in the Professional plan.
Open the Sales Accelerator
In the left sidebar, find and click 'Sales Accelerator'. If you don't see this option, the administrator may not have enabled the feature. Go to Settings > Sales Accelerator to activate it.
Go to the Sequences section
Within Sales Accelerator, click 'Sequences' in the top or side menu. You'll see the list of existing sequences in your organization.
Create a new sequence
Click '+ New sequence'. The sequence editor will open with a visual canvas where you can design the activity flow.
Configure the name and description
In the initial configuration panel, type the sequence name (e.g., 'Nurturing leads no response 7 days') and a brief description explaining its purpose. Click 'Next' to continue.
Add the first step: value message (day 7)
On the sequence canvas, click '+ Add step'. Select the activity type: 'Send an email'. Write the subject and email body with the value message. In the 'Wait' field, configure a 7-day wait before this step.
Add the second step: success story (day 14)
Click '+ Add step' again to add another step below the first. Select 'Send an email'. Write the subject and content of the email with the success story. Configure a 7-day wait (7 days after the first email, which is 14 days from the start).
Add the third step: offer (day 21)
Click '+ Add step' once more. Select 'Send an email'. Write the subject and content of the email with the special offer. Configure a 7-day wait (7 days after the second email, which is 21 days from the start).
Configure exit conditions (optional)
In the sequence configuration panel, look for the 'Exit conditions' option. You can configure a lead to automatically exit the sequence if they reply to an email or change stage in the pipeline. This prevents leads who already responded from continuing to receive messages.
Save and activate the sequence
Click 'Save' to save the sequence and then 'Activate' to activate it. An inactive sequence cannot be assigned to records. Confirm the activation in the dialog box that appears.
Connect the sequence to leads or contacts
Go to the Leads list in Sales Hub. Select leads that haven't responded in the last 7 days using filters (you can filter by last activity date). Select the records and click 'Assign sequence' in the action bar.
Select the sequence and confirm the assignment
In the panel that appears, find and select the sequence you just created. Click 'Assign'. The selected leads will start progressing through the sequence according to the configured timings. Sellers will see pending activities in their Sales Accelerator queue.
Frequently asked questions
Do Dynamics 365 Sequences send emails automatically without seller intervention?
Not by default. Sales Accelerator Sequences in Dynamics 365 work as activity guides for sellers: they show them which email to send and when, but the seller must manually review and send each email. To automate sending without intervention, you need to integrate Power Automate, which requires additional technical configuration.
What Dynamics 365 license do I need to use Sequences?
You need Dynamics 365 Sales Premium (~$135/user/month) or Sales Enterprise (~$95/user/month). The Sales Professional plan does not include Sales Accelerator or Sequences. It's important to verify your plan before attempting to configure this functionality.
Can I use Dynamics 365 Sequences for existing contacts or only for new leads?
Sequences can be assigned to both Leads and Opportunities and Contacts in Dynamics 365. They are not limited to new records. You can select any existing record that meets your criteria and manually assign a sequence from the list view or from the individual record.
